Jennifer Lopez Biography

Jennifer Lopez was born in the Bronx on July 24, 1969 to Puerto Rican parents. She received her early education attending Catholic schools and still prays daily. At the age of 16, Jennifer worked to pay for her own singing and dancing lessons. After one semester of college, she accepted a position in a legal office, while dancing in a local club in her spare time. Here career as a dancer began to become a reality as she started working in music videos, and was given a guest spot on the American Music Awards. In 1991, Jennifer landed her first high-profile job as a “Fly Girl” dancer on “In Living Color”, an American comedy show.

The 90s were good to Jennifer as she began working as an actor appearing in a series of short-lived television programs including “South Central”, “Second Chances” and “Hotel Malibu”. She then appeared in “Nurses on the Line: The Crash of Flight 7”, a made-for-TV movie. In 1995, Jennifer broke into movies with featured roles in “My Family”, “Money Train” with Wesley Snipes. In ’96, she worked with Francis Ford Coppola, and Robin Williams in “Jack”. In ’97 she worked opposite Jack Nicholson in the thriller “Blood and Wine”.

Jennifer was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress – Motion Picture Musical or Comedy in 1998 for her role in Selena. Since that time, she has appeared in many featured roles in Desperado, Gladiator, Hitch, Jerry Maguire, and Madagascar.

Jennifer’s success in the music industry began in 1999 with her release of her debut CD, “On the 6”, which reached number 20 on the Billboard Top 200. Cuts from this recording received extended air play, reaching the No 1 spot for several weeks and two Grammy nominations. Her second album, “J. Lo”, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Top 100, was release in 2001. Her next two CDs, “J to tha L-O!: The Remixes” and “This Is Me... Then”, debuted at numbers 1 and 2, respectively.

For a time, Jennifer entered into a highly publicized relationship with Ben Affleck. The couple was named “Bennifer”. In October of 2002, she announced her engagement to Affleck after receiving a ring valued at $3,500,000. The couple was to be wed in Santa Barbara on September 14th, 2003, but called it off several days before the event. The couple split permanently several months later.

Soon after that, Jennifer began dating fellow singer, Marc Anthony. They were wed less than six months later on June 5th, 2004.

Recently, J. Lo has remained busy working on four movies in the past three years. In 2005 she appeared in “An Unfinished Life” with Robert Redford and Morgan Freeman. Her future looks bright as she is already contracted for five more movies starting in 2006.
